Sakala Jewels is an online strand of the established Sakala brand, founded and nurtured by Helen Hitchcock in India and West Sussex. We design, curate and sell beautiful jewellery that combines elegance with ethics. Our pieces are timeless yet playful, with a boho feel and stylish simplicity. We work with, and buy directly from, the makers of our jewellery – so can bring you both authenticity and value.
As frequent travellers to India our collection of jewellery embodies the energy, vivaciousness and riotous colours of the subcontinent, with an underlying reflection of the quieter spiritualism of the place. Each individual stone used in our earrings, pendants and rings is natural and hand-selected for only the very best in colour, shape and finish. We work with trusted, highly skilled artisans in India who turn our designs into stunning, unique works of exotic brilliance and Sakala Jewels’ craftsmen only use quality Indian silver.
Giving back to the community
Sakala was founded on the principles of mutuality and fair trade. We pay meaningful prices and keep our production process simple and small. A percentage of all our profits is channelled back into the communities of India and Sussex which we are lucky to call our homes, through a small NGO that works with education and development projects to improve the lives of women and children. Our products are interwoven with the stories of the people whose lives we, and our customers, have interacted with.
In our carefully chosen range of jewellery you will find collections based around simple drop stones, one-offs, a metamorphic range combining stud and drop earrings, simple bands with single stones and a signature set of earrings inspired by the peacock’s tail. We are constantly developing our designs and will add new products regularly.
